Silvia Salis, a civic candidate with the entire centre-left behind her, an expression of the broad field in Genoa was elected mayor of the Ligurian capital in the first round. The progressive alliance formula has thus prevailed in an area that has been led by the centre-right in recent years, both in the municipality and in the region. The current Ligurian governor, Marco Bucci, is the outgoing mayor of Genoa.

Genovese, 39 years old, a graduate in political science, a past as an Olympic athlete as a hammer player (she won ten Italian titles between winter and absolute), after her experience as a sports manager, last 17 February she officially ran for mayor of her city, supported by the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement, the Green Alliance and the Left.

A former Olympic athlete - she competed in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 - she was a champion in the hammer throw, winning ten national titles, including winter and overall. Having abandoned competitive activity due to injury in April 2016, she became manager of the team she competed for, the Fiamme Azzurre. In 2017, she was elected to the Coni National Council, of which she became deputy vice-president in May 2021.
