Trump reiterated that the NATO summit had been a success and that in the meeting room “there was immense warmth” amongst leaders who were “very intelligent and doing a great job in their own countries”. He added that most NATO member states “understand very well” that defence spending needs to be increased, and that it is indeed rising. There was “extraordinary unity” at the NATO meeting. The US president then claimed that American defence equipment “is the best in the world; everyone wants it, and the Europeans and Canadians are spending heavily to get it”.
