Italia: first ‘terrible’, then ‘good’

Shortly before the start of the summit of NATO heads of state and government – including Italia’s key European allies, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy – President Trump once again took aim at them. Regarding Italia, he reiterated that “it has been terrible” in its handling of the use of US bases in the country. During the afternoon press conference, he changed his tone: “Italia has been good” and “all the NATO countries” “have been good; they just went through a rough patch and didn’t help us” with Iran. Donald Trump made these remarks whilst speaking at the closing press conference of the Ankara summit.
