Immersing oneself in a diffuse museum

Walking around Nantes means immersing oneself in a diffuse museum with more than 135 contemporary works of art scattered in public spaces, a constant dialogue between historical architecture and avant-garde visions. The beating heart of this metamorphosis is the Île de Nantes, where the former shipyards now house the famous Machines de l'Île, an extraordinary art and tourism project combining the mechanical inventions of Leonardo da Vinci with the fantastic imagery of Jules Verne. Located in the former shipyards, these giant mechanical creatures offer unique interactive experiences. Here, the Great Elephant made of steel and wood staggers and walks among passers-by, embodying that 'Vernean' dream that fuses mechanics and poetry.
