In Vienna, Austria: a map exploring design, architecture and new galleries

Vienna kicks off the autumn with a packed programme of events dedicated to design and the visual arts. Until 17 October, the “Curated by” festival involves 24 Viennese galleries hosting international curators on the theme of “Love”, offering exhibitions with free admission. Until 19 September, fashion takes centre stage at the MuseumsQuartier with Vienna Fashion Week. A key event is Vienna Design Week (25 September to 4 October), which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary with over 200 events and exhibitions across the city; the headquarters for the 2026 edition is the Allianz building in Hietzing, designed in the 1970s by the architect Harry Glück. Over the same weekend (25–27 September), the Open House Wien festival offers free access to over 50 buildings that are usually closed to the public. From 28 September to 3 October, the Vienna City Gallery Walk offers guided tours of art galleries, whilst on 3 October, the Long Night of Museums provides evening access to numerous collections with a single ticket. Finally, from 9 to 11 October, the historic halls of the Hofburg host the Design District, a fair dedicated to interior design and lifestyle, whilst in November (from 6 to 13) Vienna Art Week features exhibitions and talks on the theme ‘Navigating Angst’, analysing the role of art in the face of the complexities of the present.
