Literary Journey into the Extraordinary Nature of Chile
In the Araucanía region between trees and volcanoes
Botanical enthusiasts should include the Andean region of Araucanía in their Chilean travel itinerary, where the towering araucaria trees, along with the local wildlife, imposing mountains and spectacular volcanoes provide unforgettable immersive experiences. While Curacautín is renowned for the traditional dishes of the Mapuche people, the hot springs of Malalcahuello never disappoint, as do the spectacular volcanoes of Tolhuaca, Lonquimay, Llaima and Sierra Nevada, which surround it. The next day, one is awaited by the 25-metre-high Salto de La Princesa waterfall and trekking in the Conguillío National Park towards the destination of the Laguna Captren, which amazes with the large number of trees in its waters. The adventure in the Andean region of Araucanía can continue by taking the Sierra Nevada Trail: in those eleven kilometres one will discover natural wonders such as the Conguillío Lake, the Llaima Volcano and the Sierra Nevada Volcano. In Temuco, artisans in their workshops will carve a wooden souvenir in the shape of a tree or puma for you.
