Literary Journey into the Extraordinary Nature of Chile
Ñuble sea gastronomy and Isla Lobería sea lions
To savour the pleasure of the most imaginative Chilean cuisine, one has to reach the Ñuble region, and the Cobquecura coast, which stretches for over fifty kilometres: seafood, legumes, papaya are its excellences. One then penetrates into the Humedal Taucú, a wetland that is home to beautiful black-necked swans, herons, flamingos, while in the adjacent Playa La Rinconada the dishevelled waves allow one to surf with great satisfaction. From there, you can head into the meandering Valle de Buchupureo, named after the rural town where the river meets the sea, sharing a mysterious black beach. Likewise, the Santuario de la Naturaleza Islote Lobería and Iglesia de Piedra is very dear to the Chileans of recent generations who fought to save the sea lions from the mass capture that took place before the 1992 World Conference on Biodiversity in Rio de Janeiro: now that they are safe, these animals can be peacefully observed, along with the collared vulture, black vulture and herring gull.
