In the footsteps of John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Boston

L’architettura della JFK Presidential Library and Museum a Boston

In Boston, there is one of the most beloved and popular destinations for history and politics enthusiasts: the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, dedicated to the memory of the 35th president, as well as to his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, whose lives are brought to life through memorabilia, historical documents and virtual tours. The Library also houses a rich collection of personal papers and documents that belonged to Ernest Hemingway, donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library by Mary Welsh Hemingway, the writer’s widow. Above all, this space – designed by the architect I.M. Pei, whom Jacqueline personally chose – is situated at the tip of the 280-acre Columbia Point peninsula, overlooking the entrance to Boston Harbour and the islands to the east of Dorchester Bay. The building now houses the exhibition ‘Declaring the Revolution: Celebrating the Declaration’, which explores the documents that inspired the Declaration. The Pavilion is particularly striking: a nine-storey glass atrium offering extraordinary views over Boston Bay. Furthermore, at 83 Beals Street in Brookline, Massachusetts, stands the house where JFK spent his childhood with his parents, Joseph and Rose Kennedy: it is now a museum, the interior of which remains very much as it was when the family first moved in.
