Kia EV5, what it looks like, how it goes and how much the electric family suv costs
The new mid-size model evolves the brand's styling canons and has a functional and hi-tech interior. It is marketed in four trims only in the long range version with 530 kilometres of autonomy
Key points
Electric attack. Kia's strategy can only be defined in this way because in the space of a few months it is marketing many new models in Italy with which it is entering sectors where it was not present with battery-powered models. In fact, the announced mid-size suv EV5 is flanked by the full range of electrovans PV5, the hatcback sedan EV4, GT versions of the EV6 and EV) with a gearbox simulating a double clutch, and the urban suv EV2.
The EV5, an ideal link between the EV3 compact SUV and the big EV9, is pitted against rivals such as the Skoda Enjaq, Citroën C5 Aircross, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volkswagen Id.4.
Kia EV5, powertrain, range and technologies
Based like other Kia electrics on the modular E-Gmp platform and with a 400V electric architecture, the EV5 is powered by a front powertrain with 218 horsepower and 295 Nm of torque. Unlike other Kia electrics, the EV5 is only offered as a long range version, powered by an 81.4 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese battery from LG, which recharges 10 to 80 per cent in half an hour on 150 kW DC and promises a range of up to 530 kilometres. Of course, it can also be recharged with alternating current up to 11 kW, in this case in more than seven hours. The EV5 also offers many state-of-the-art technologies such as advanced level 2 semi-assisted driving, heat pump from the second trim level along with Plug and Charge, i-Pedal release 3.0, and support and with some fittings even systems for sharing electricity with devices and the home network.
