Mattarella: The Republic is grateful to the Guardia di Finanza for protecting honest taxpayers and upholding the law
‘On the occasion of the 252nd anniversary of the founding of the Guardia di Finanza, I am pleased to extend the Republic’s greetings to the men and women of the Corps, who are effective in implementing the principles of the Constitution. I pay tribute to the Corps’ War Flag, which has been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Culture and the Arts, in recognition of the high standing achieved by the Corps’ Military Band over a century of intense and passionate activity. My heartfelt thoughts go out to all the members of the Guardia di Finanza who have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. To their families, I reaffirm the nation’s profound sympathy and gratitude.’ This is the message that the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, sent to the Commander-in-Chief of the Guardia di Finanza, Lieutenant General Andrea De Gennaro. ‘This year marks the eightieth anniversary of the sovereign decision by which the Italian people established the Republic, and we are celebrating important anniversaries within the Corps. It is now twenty-five years since the reform that redefined the Guardia di Finanza as an economic and financial police force, capable of tackling the complex challenges of globalised markets, both nationally and across Europe, alongside the necessary fight against tax evasion, to safeguard the Republic’s ability to meet the needs of its citizens and to protect honest taxpayers, thereby ensuring economic legality’, continues the Head of State’s message. ‘The Republic is grateful to the Fiamme Gialle for the dedication and professionalism they have shown at home and on international missions. On this day of celebration, I am pleased to extend my warmest wishes for every future personal and professional success to all members of the Guardia di Finanza, both serving and retired, and to their families. Long live the Guardia di Finanza! Long live the Republic,’ concludes Mattarella.

My warmest best wishes, and may you always continue to serve Italia with the same passion and sense of duty that have characterised your Corps for 252 years.”
La Russa: an indispensable asset to the State
In his message of good wishes, the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, emphasises that ‘the Guardia di Finanza is an indispensable asset to the State, safeguarding economic and financial security, combating tax evasion, fraud and all forms of economic crime, and making a decisive contribution to upholding the principles of justice, fairness and transparency’.
