León: where the journey takes flight

The itinerary ends in León, the state’s largest city, renowned both for its centuries-old tradition of leather and footwear manufacturing and for its modernity. Every November, León hosts the International Hot-Air Balloon Festival. From 13 to 16 November 2026, over 200 colourful hot-air balloons from all over the world will take to the skies at dawn above the Metropolitan Park, creating a truly spectacular sight. The festival evenings are brought to life by the ‘Magical Nights’, during which hot-air balloons tethered to the ground are illuminated in time to the music, offering a spectacle of lights and sounds ahead of the concerts and culinary events that round off the day. Once this stage of the festival is over, the excellent road and air links make it easy to reach the Mexican coast for those wishing to extend their trip with a beach holiday, taking with them memories of a Mexico of yesteryear, suspended between earth and sky.
