Mario Calabresi is leaving Chora & Will and is set to stand as a candidate for mayor of Milan
Over the past few months, the journalist had already stated on several occasions that he was considering the possibility
Mario Calabresi is to step down from his roles at Chora & Will Media. As reported by Sole 24 Ore in its print edition available at newsagents on 1 September, the former editor-in-chief of *La Repubblica* and *La Stampa* is set to bring his time at the company to a close (a leading player in the podcasting world, formed through a merger in 2022 and now part of Be Content), of which he was one of the founders alongside Guido Maria Brera.
The announcement is expected this afternoon. And all eyes are on a future (not today) announcement regarding a bid to stand in the 2027 local elections in Milan.
Primaries likely in early 2027
Calabresi’s name, after all, has been doing the rounds in Milanese political circles for at least a year. Backed by a large section of the PD and by centre-left independents, he is reportedly preparing to stand in the (possible) primaries in early 2027, which will serve to select the centre-left candidate for next spring’s local elections in Milan.
He himself came out into the open – albeit in a veiled manner – on 22 July at the PD party in Predabissi, a small town in the Milanese hinterland. ‘I’m thinking about it,’ he had said.
He may say more – if not before, then on 12 September – at the Milanese PD party rally, when he will be in conversation with Don Ciotti on stage. His main rival in the primaries is expected to be the Democrat Pierfrancesco Majorino, a long-serving politician from Milan.
