Milan, new trains for the M1 line coming. Atm: 'In operation by summer'

The first new train destined for the Casa Atm has entered M1. After four days of travel, starting from the Hitachi Rail facilities in Reggio Calabria in an exceptional transport, the vehicle reached the Milan-small terminal, and then crossed the city to arrive at the Atm metro depot in Precotto, via Anassagora 11.

The first of 21 new trains on the M1 is part of the first application contract worth EUR 168 million and is part of the group's investment strategy for the renewal of the entire fleet. In the coming months, technical tests and all the necessary checks will be carried out on the train, which will then be able to start running on the Red Line tracks by summer 2025.

The new vehicles will contribute to modernising Milan's public transport network, offering passengers an increasing availability of state-of-the-art, accessible and comfortable vehicles.

New design, total accessibility of the carriages, video surveillance system with real-time image display from the operations room, and silent running for maximum customer comfort: these are the distinctive features of the new vehicles. All trains are bi-directional, consist of six carriages and can carry up to 1,200 passengers. They are also equipped with LED lighting and air conditioning systems and guarantee high energy efficiency.

Finally, all the new trains have been designed with particular attention to the environment, starting with the materials that guarantee high levels of recyclability at the end of their lives.
