OpenAI continues to churn out novelties, and on the tenth day of its 12 Days of OpenAI initiative, a sort of advent calendar in which the company unveils an announcement related to its products and services every day, it unveiled an interesting addition to the most popular chatbot of the moment.

As of today, in fact, it is possible to use ChatGPT also via WhatsApp: just like a friend, colleague or relative. Doing so is quite simple, as you only need to save the dedicated phone number +18002428478 (by necessarily adding the initial + sign) in the address book of your smartphone and then open the messaging app to start a conversation with the newly saved contact. This is a practical and intuitive opportunity to allow even those who are unfamiliar with artificial intelligence to approach the model's potential with greater ease, but above all through a tool used daily by most smartphone owners: OpenAI's goal, in fact, is precisely that of being able to make effective productivity tools, such as ChatGPT, accessible to everyone.

As a version, the one implemented inside WhatsApp uses GPT-4o with an integration with WhatsApp's API.

This is a basic version: using the service through WhatsApp it will be possible to ask for support in writing articles, translating, brainstorming, getting travel ideas or even generating quizzes and conversations on general culture and news topics. It should be noted, however, that the chatbot is currently only able to recognise commands via text messages. The information provided by this version is only up-to-date until January 2022, which is a limitation for real-time enquiries.

It should also be borne in mind that this mode of interaction proposed by OpenAI is still in an experimental phase, so there may be variations in availability over time.
