Orsini: ‘We will do everything we can to protect Ducati’s workers’
Speaking about the company’s future, the president of Confindustria emphasised that “we need to understand what Volkswagen will do” and that what is happening “is also a clear reflection of what is happening in Europe”
“We wanted to make it clear that, as a nation, we are here: together with the Regional President and Minister Urso, we will do whatever it takes to help safeguard the jobs of two thousand people”. This was stated by the president of Confindustria Emanuele Orsini, on the sidelines of the opening of Cersaie in Bologna, whilst speaking about the visit to the Ducati production site which took place this morning.
On the future of the company, he emphasised that “we need to understand what Volkswagen will do” and what is happening, he adds, “is also a clear reflection of what is happening in Europe. Why is Volkswagen in crisis? It had a plan to take on 100,000 people and made 60,000 of them redundant two weeks ago. I think it’s a good thing that we were there today discussing how to ensure this supply chain remains intact”. Because, Orsini concludes, “behind the 2,000 people who work at Ducati lies a whole important world”.
Urso: it’s time for Ducati to return to Italian ownership
“I believe the time has come for this company to return fully to Italian ownership”. This was stated by Adolfo Urso, Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, on the sidelines of the opening conference of Cersaie in Bologna, whilst speaking about Ducati, the Italian motorbike manufacturer owned by the Volkswagen Group, which could be sold off by the German firm.
Urso explained that they are monitoring “what this large German multinational’s intentions are, whether they really do intend to sell, and if so, within what timeframe and under what conditions. We are on the ground, ready for any eventuality, to find a solution that is sustainable in the long term and that will allow this company, should it indeed be sold, to return to Italian ownership”.
Whilst discussions with the German group continue, Urso reiterated that “we will use every means at our disposal to ensure that this transition does not weaken, but rather strengthens, this jewel of Made in Italy that everyone envies us for. The Government is fully engaged; we are determined, and we have demonstrated our ability to act in this area and to ensure such transitions when necessary and appropriate, including through the use of the ‘Golden Power’ mechanism”.
