A platform to recover and redistribute products at risk of waste. It is Regusto (by the benefit company Recuperiamo), the platform that manages the donations of 650 companies, destined for more than 1,300 non-profit organisations active in the redistribution of products to the most fragile families in the area. Every month over 200 tonnes of food and non-food goods are donated and sold within the Regusto platform. In the food sector alone, Regusto has so far managed 13 thousand tonnes of foodstuffs at risk of waste, the equivalent of 26 million meals for an economic value of EUR 34 million.
And a savings of 35,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided by the non-disposal of products. Specifically, the products of the agri-food chain that are most recovered include fresh products, especially fruits and vegetables with a percentage of 23%, then dairy products and fresh products including meat with a percentage of 17%. This is followed by long-life products such as canned goods with a percentage of 19%. There are also bakery products, cold cuts, spreadable sauces and pulses.
"Through the platform, food and non-food companies can donate and sell their products," says Paolo Rellini co-founder and co-founder with ceo Marco Raspati, "digitising and tracking the activity in a transparent manner. For each transaction, the social, environmental and economic impact on the territory is calculated and monitored".
This is all thanks to proprietary algorithms "that are based on international reference standards and comply with the new European Esg norms". "The social and environmental impact data can be included by companies in the sustainability report," he emphasises. "This is above all an economic advantage for companies that save on the costs of disposal and storage of surplus or expired goods, in addition to the tax relief granted by the 'anti-waste' law 166/2016.
As for the areas of interest: "We are present throughout Italy," continues Rellini, "but as a matter of numbers and volumes, we can say thatthe largest part is in northern Italy. In the plans of the company that, in fact, guarantees a service to the groups that access the platform and can then benefit from the certifications, there is a project of expansion also at an international level. This year, in fact, there has been a capital increase of about half a million, which envisages the expansion of the service on a European and international level.
