The combination of food and design is getting closer and closer, and during the Milano Design Week (with the Salone del Mobile and the Fuori Salone from 7 to 13 April) it is at its best, opening up spaces that are often closed to the public and giving people the opportunity to try something unique, even with taste.
The Star of Rana from DespiteMarras
As every year, the appointment with the Famiglia Rana in the NonostanteMarras showroom (Via Cola di Rienzo 8) is highly anticipated. The showroom hosts the temporary bistrot & restaurant signed by Michelin-starred chef Francesco Sodano (one Michelin star in Vallese di Oppeano, Verona). In the evocative courtyard of designer Antonio Marras, amidst blossoming wisteria and poetic atmospheres, visitors can start the day with a gourmet breakfast, indulge in a relaxed lunch or enjoy the full experience of dinner, served in a room set up like a work of art. The dinner menu is a tasting menu inspired by the city of Alghero, the designer's homeland. Don't miss dishes such as the scallop and prosciutto, a marriage of sea and land that recalls the island's Spanish influences; the risotto with smoked seaweed butter, herring caviar and sea urchin emulsion, which pays homage to Alghero's marine soul; and the almond, caper and smooth citron of Sardinia, a dessert that combines sweetness and citrus fruits typical of Sardinian tradition.
Messina Beer and Sicilian Art
.In Via Tortona, Sicilian artist Magda Masano transforms a building into an open-air work of art. Inspired by the motifs of majolica and the aesthetics of Birra Messina, the installation wraps the structure with a decorative ribbon that plays with contrasts of blue and white, giving new life to the urban space. A tribute to Sicily, visible throughout April 2025. And there is a second appointment: from 7 to 13 April, the Edicola Meraviglia opens in Piazza Morbegno. Here, between art and tradition, visitors will be able to taste Birra Messina specialities and discover two limited edition glasses, inspired by the Sicilian symbols of the Teste di Moro and the Zagara. The creations are signed by young talents from the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania.
Lunch with Persephone's World
.From 7 to 24 April, the entrance to the hotel and part of the Restaurant at Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá will be transformed into a stage for art and design thanks to Persephone's World, Mirei Monticelli's immersive installation. Inspired by the myth of Persephone and the Connected Worlds theme of Fuorisalone 2025, the work fuses light, matter and symbolism to create a unique experience. A luminous arch will mark the passage between two worlds, while elements of fire and a radiant globe will evoke the eternal cycle of life and rebirth. Perfect for those who want to dine surrounded by art.
Lavazza's 'source of pleasure'
.Lavazza is the creator of an immersive experience with a strong sensory impact with Source of Pleasure, the installation that comes to life in the courtyard of the evocative Palazzo del Senato, from 6 to 13 April. Designed by Brazilian designer Juliana Lima Vasconcellos, the work accompanies the public on an emotional and multisensory journey, in which sight, touch, smell and taste intertwine to narrate the universe of coffee through new perspectives. Source of Pleasure is not only a tribute to the pleasure contained in every cup, but also a poetic exploration that fuses design, matter and daily ritual. And you will be able to enjoy a new Lavazza cup free of charge.
