Double-digit growth in summer 2025 for online restaurant bookings. The increase, 'despite the current economic uncertainty affecting Italians' consumption habits', is above both 2024 and 2023 levels, 'accompanied by a boom in new users on the app'.
This is according toTheFork, a platform for online restaurant bookings. According to the report, from the beginning of July to date,16% of bookings were made by international travellers who spent on average about 30% more than Italian tourists or local residents. In the same period, bookings by Italian tourists accounted for 19% of the total, in line with 2024.
The areas that recorded the highest number of bookings - analysts inform - coincide with the most large urban and tourist centres: Rome, Milan, Turin, Florence, Naples, Palermo, which together account for almost 50% of national bookings.
As far as types of cuisine are concerned, Italian and Mediterranean are the most popular with users: almost one in two bookings were made in restaurants with national cuisine. Pizzerias accounted for 15% of bookings, followed by seafood and oriental cuisine restaurants, particularly Japanese.
