That mosaic of experiences in nature among the islands of western Sweden

by Laura Dominici

Waking up with the call of water birds, breathing in the smell of resin and salt, losing oneself in the thousands of islands that seem to glide over the water like dragon scales. If Sweden were a symphony, its western part would be its most harmonious and dynamic movement. With more than 70 per cent of its territory covered by forest cover, 95,000 lakes and the staggering world record of 267,000 islands, Sweden does not simply offer nature: Sweden is nature. But it is in its western portion that this vastness becomes accessible, transforming into a mosaic of experiences ranging from starry gourmet to solitary trekking, far from the routes of mass tourism.
