Etruscan Volterra chosen for the Vaghe Stelle dell'Orsa...

For the film Vaghe Stelle dell'Orsa, Luchino Visconti chose mainly Volterra where Sandra, the main character, returns with her husband, played by Michael Craig, while Jean Sorel plays the role of her brother. The aristocratic Palazzo Viti, built at the end of the 16th century and purchased in 1850 by the alabaster merchant Giuseppe Viti, lent its originally Renaissance and Baroque rooms to the set of the film, where paintings, porcelain, collections and, indeed, alabasters are kept, along with other valuable artistic objects representing Italian, European and Oriental art from 1400 to 1900.
