The connection with the Dutch south

Moving to the Dutch side (Sint Maarten) means a change of atmosphere: here everything is more vertical, dynamic and oriented towards duty-free shopping and nightlife. Philipsburg, the Dutch capital, is a paradise for shopping for jewellery and technology. Nevertheless, the bond between the two is deep: the 'Unity Flag' represents this symbiosis, a nation that, despite having two administrations, two telephone prefixes and separate currencies (euro and guilder, although the US dollar reigns everywhere), feels itself to be a single cultural entity.
