(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tech shares are on the move in Europe in the wake of rumours regarding the development of Apple’s new generation of iPhone Air and comments by the US President, Donald Trump, regarding the agreement between Apple and Intel for the production of chips in the United States. On the first front, the Cupertino-based company is reportedly aiming to launch the new model in spring 2027 and “the expansion of the product line is expected to benefit the entire supply chain in terms of both product mix and overall volumes”, according to analysts at Banca Akros.
In particular, Stmicroelectronics “could benefit from increased demand for microprocessors for the second generation of the iPhone Air compared to the first”, whilst Technoprobe ‘is expected to benefit from the new logic chip design’. These positive prospects offset the impact of the announced price rises for Apple products and the likely resulting decline in sales volumes. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, CEO Tim Cook indicated that price rises on Apple products are now “inevitable”, given what he described as an unsustainable situation regarding memory costs. For suppliers, Equita notes, this is a “scenario to monitor should the price rises have a significant impact on volumes”, although the consequences for ST and Technoprobe are mitigated by the fact that both “are primarily exposed to the premium end of the market, which tends to be more resilient than the mass market”. As for the Apple-Intel deal, the alliance was announced by Trump on his social media platform Truth and has given a boost to Intel’s shares, which are up 9% in pre-market trading on Wall Street. At European level, the Stoxx sub-index for the sector rose by 0.15%, recording the only positive sector performance. Among individual stocks, Infineon Technologies is also performing well, whilst in Amsterdam, ASM International and ASML Holding are rising.
