The thousand lights of Turin to be discovered in five stages between ancient and modern history

by Laura Dominici

To walk under the arcades of Turin during the festive season is to immerse oneself in a lively and elegant city, easy to get around, thanks to its rational Roman town planning. Along 18 kilometres of arcaded streets, one discovers elegant squares and majestic palaces inherited from the splendour of the House of Savoy and designed by great architects such as Juvarra and Guarini, declared a World Heritage Site in 1997. In the historical centre alone, there are no less than six royal residences, some of which house prestigious museums. And then just a few kilometres from the city centre are the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, the Reggia di Venaria Reale and the Castello di Rivoli, home to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Not forgetting the imposing religious buildings such as the Duomo where, under Guarini's eccentric dome, the Holy Shroud is kept. Italy's first capital city showcases its ancient and modern history, palaces and museums, the river and the heights, as well as gourmant lovers of historic restaurants and cafés. Here are five experiences not to be missed, in a dive between the sacred and the profane and a hint of esotericism, as the city lies at the apex of two magic triangles, marking a meeting point of positive and negative energies.
