September is shaping up to be a complicated month for those travelling by train, plane or public transport. Indeed, the list of agitations announced as of 4 September - and reported on the portal of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - is long. There are already more than twenty union protests planned over the course of the month.

Train strike on 4-5 September

September begins with inconvenience for rail travellers. The on-board and driving personnel of the Ferrovie dello Stato Group have proclaimed a 21-hour national mobilisation, which will block trains from 9 p.m. on Thursday 4 September until 6 p.m. on Friday 5 September. The protest is likely to paralyse a large part of national transport, specifically affecting Frecciarossa trains, Trenitalia trains and regional services.

Air transport strike on 6 September

6 September promises to be a critical day for air travellers: a national strike has been called in the air transport sector involving both ground and flight personnel, possibly causing delays, cancellations and disruptions at Italian airports. This is a trade union agitation affecting operators who are fundamental to the smooth running of airport operations, such as passenger assistance, check-in, baggage handling and ramp services. From 12 noon to 4 p.m. the protest will affect all ground operational staff (at Milan Linate the strike will last 24 hours). To make the situation even more delicate is the simultaneous adhesion of EasyJet flight personnel to a 24-hour strike, which risks affecting many short and medium-haul connections, especially on the busiest routes.

Friday, 26 September will also be another high-risk day, with two national strikes: Cub Trasporti has scheduled a full-day strike for all employees in the airline, airport and allied sectors; a 24-hour stop on Volotea flights is planned, organised by the Uilt-Uil unions.

Local Public Transport

.

In the capital on Thursday 4 September public transport is at risk due to a four-hour strike, from 8:30 to 12:30, called by the Sul union. The strike, reads the Municipality of Rome's website, will affect the Atac network of buses, trolleybuses, trams, underground trains and the Termini-Centocelle railway line. Connections operated by other sub-contracted operators are excluded. During the strike, escalators, lifts and stair lifts will not be guaranteed in stations of the metro network that may remain open. The interchange car parks will remain open. Interruptions in ticketing services will be possible; the online ticketing service, however, will not suffer any stoppages. In Sicily, on 8 September, disruptions are expected throughout the day at several companies: Autolinee Russo (Palermo), Segesta Autolinee (Palermo), Interbus (Enna) and Etna Trasporti (Catania) will take part in a 24-hour strike.
