The 150th anniversary of the Richard Wagner Festival

Certainly, 2026 is an important year for this German city because it is the 150th anniversary of the Richard Wagner Festival, the musical event that Bayreuth has dedicated since 1876 to the world-famous composer from Leipzig, during which practically all of his operas can be seen, which in this special edition will be performed on no less than 150 stages scattered throughout its territory. After all, as early as 1871 Richard Wagner chose Bayreuth as the venue for his opera festivals. Wagner himself engaged the architect, Otto Brückwald, and in 1876 the opera Das Rheingold was staged inside the new, rather sober amphitheatre-like building of the Festspielhaus, the Opera House, which still forms the heart of the celebrations (this summer, they will take place from 24 July to 26 August) and can also be visited during the rest of the year
