Al Gatto Verde, a restaurant of the "Francescana Family" with Jessica Rosval at the helm, enters the "second part" of the prestigious ranking of The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025. The Modenese restaurant comes in at 92nd place and is the only Italian listed from 51st to 100th. While this does not seem to be good news in view of the proclamation of the first part of the ranking on 19 June in Turin, there are good hopes that the Italians who last year opened last year's list of the "second 50" may be this year advanced in position (Alajmo and Niederkofler).
Al Gatto Verde - located inside Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore's Casa Maria Luigia in Modena - is led by Canadian chef Jessica Rosval, who joined Osteria Francescana in 2013. 'The menu focuses on wood-fired cooking and seasonal ingredients: there's not much that hasn't been touched by a flame,' reads the motivations.
Green in name and in fact (already awarded a Michelin green star, as well as the most 'traditional' macaron)the restaurant prioritises sustainability, sourcing produce from its own gardens and local initiatives. Furthermore, Caroline Caporossi and Jessica Rosval, who founded and run Roots, a social restaurant located in Modena, were awarded for this solidarity project last year by The World's 50 Best Restaurants "Champions of Change 2024";
The 51-100 list includes restaurants in 25 territories and 37 cities on all continents with 12 new entries from 12 different cities, from Sao Paulo and San Francisco to Macao and Tulum. In the list nine restaurants are in Asia, 20 in Europe, eight from North America, eight from South America, three from Africa and two from Oceania.
In Europe, there are several new entries, including, in addition to Al Gatto Verde, Koan (91) in Copenhagen, Cocina Hermanos Torres (78) in Barcelona, and Txispa (85) in Atxondo, Spain. The highest new entry in the 51-100 ranking is Arca in Tulum, Mexico (67).
