Sentiero d’Arte a Torrechiara. Carla Soffritti

For art lovers, the Pedalart project, with its 19 routes, transforms the bicycle into an open-air catalogue, where you’ll come across castles, parish churches, spas, museums and historic residences. From the Greenway of Parma’s ducal residences to the Torrechiara art trail – where contemporary artworks interact with the medieval castle – every turn of the pedals is a cultural discovery. But Emilia is also a land of iconic events. From 20 to 25 July, it’s the turn of the ‘6 Giorni delle Rose’, the historic international track cycling competition at the ‘Attilio Pavesi’ velodrome in Fiorenzuola d’Arda, now in its 29th edition, featuring both men’s and women’s races. For those with a nostalgic streak, on 12 and 13 September there’s La Polverosa, a vintage cycle ride along dirt tracks on period bicycles, whilst lovers of extreme challenges look forward to the Emilia Gravel, scheduled for 25 to 27 September, a 315 km adventure that brings together the three provinces (Piacenza, Parma and Reggio Emilia) in one great embrace.
