Empress promenade and the elegance of the Belle Époque

Walking along the Empress Promenade means stepping back in time to the splendour of the late 19th century. The promenade, paved with precious marbles and adorned with the famous palm trees, owes its name to Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, who in 1874 donated the plants to the city in thanks for the welcome she received. Among the many nobles and high-ranking personalities of Russian origin who already frequented various resorts on the Côte d'Azur such as Nice, Monte Carlo or Menton, many also decided to go to San Remo to spend the winter season there, taking advantage of the favourable climatic conditions of the area. It is here that one can breathe in the cosmopolitan air of Sanremo, between the Art Nouveau Casino and the nearby Russian Orthodox Church, and where the icons of 5-star hospitality stand out. The Europa Palace, the only 5-star hotel open all year round, was reopened in January 2025 after a careful renovation that combined historical elegance, contemporary design and an offer designed also for the local public, with gourmet dining, a spa, panoramic terraces and spaces for tailor-made events. With 70 rooms of different types, 3 restaurants and a 400 m2 Spa, it represents a new meeting point between hospitality, taste and culture. Also worth mentioning are the Royal Hotel, guardian of a centuries-old tradition with a tropical park and heated swimming pool, and the Miramare The Palace Resort, with 64 rooms, elegant furnishings and swimming pool.
