Eurorando 2026: Discover Saxony on foot

The event will take place from 20 to 26 September 2026, during which time Saxony will be one of the main destinations for Eurorando, the major European hiking event that brings together walkers from across the continent every five years. The region will host a week of events and walking routes, with the aim of showcasing an area that combines landscape, history and cultural exchange. The programme features over 30 hikes, with routes of varying lengths and difficulties designed to take participants through some of the region’s most distinctive landscapes, such as the spectacular sandstone formations and deep gorges of the Saxon Switzerland National Park, or the trails of the Ore Mountains. One of the most interesting aspects of Eurorando is the opportunity to use the walk as a key to understanding the region’s history: the routes pass through areas shaped by mining, ancient trade routes and rural culture, alternating between natural landscapes and evidence of human activity. For those arriving from abroad, the event can also provide an opportunity to plan a wider-ranging trip around the region: Dresden, the Elbe Valley, the castles and the Malerweg can easily be combined with days spent trekking.
