The most important stages of the Garlasco murder: 18 years of judicial battles
These are the main stages of the court case that reopened last March
Chiara Poggi, a 26-year-old economics graduate, was killed with a blunt object on 13 August 2007 in the small villa in Garlasco (Pavia) where she lived with her parents. The alarm was raised by her boyfriend Alberto Stasi, a Bocconi student at the time, who is now serving a 16-year sentence. He had been acquitted in the first two degrees of judgement. He is on semi-freedom. On 6 February, the European Court of Human Rights declared inadmissible the appeal of Stasi, now 42 years old, who asked for the conviction to be annulled.
