Christmas in the hills: places in the Oltrepò Pavese among ancient stones, vineyards and flavours
Golferenzo, the magic of markets in a suspended village
A cosy village with less than 200 resident inhabitants, on top of a 400-metre hill where Pinot and Riesling vineyards grow, with the advantage of proximity to Stradella and the virtue of being a perfect starting point for tours of the Buttafuoco cellars. Golferenzo is something unique because its rebirth passes through scrupulous architectural care of the old village and through cornerstones that are widespread hospitality (the Relais Borgo dei Gatti offers accommodation in portions of old stone houses that have been completely and elegantly restored), quality catering and slow mobility. The cobbled lanes and the view that fades into the horizon over the hills that change the colours of the landscape in every season are the backdrop to the atmosphere experienced during the Christmas season, when on weekends the streets are filled with local artisans and producers, stalls and wooden houses, lights, scents and street performers. And to end on a high note, here are the proposals of the Adasi wellness centre, adagio in the Overseas Po Valley dialect, which offers Turkish baths, massages and a cosy outdoor Finnish sauna overlooking the Versa Valley hills.
