Christmas in the hills: places in the Oltrepò Pavese among ancient stones, vineyards and flavours

In Zavattarello to go back in time

Among the historical villages of the Oltrepò Pavese, Zavattarello is worth a visit for two peculiarities among others: its strong medieval imprint and the presence of the Dal Verme Castle, which dominates the village with its austere bulk overlooking the hills. Entering Zavattarello means taking a real leap back in time, indulging in the pleasure of walking without destination among its stone alleys, ancient buildings and old churches. Its geographical location, amidst the hills sloping towards the Apennines, makes it a suitable place for those in search of a relaxing weekend in an atmosphere suspended between nature and historical tale. During the Christmas holidays, the village comes alive (on 24, 26 and 28 December) with the traditional Zavattarello Living Crib, an immersive and participatory experience that transforms the streets of the centre into a stage where the protagonists are the costumes and trades of the past.
