On the South Shore on the crescent-shaped beaches beloved of surfers

On the South Shore, around Makahūena Point, guys with surfboards under their shoulders are almost certainly heading for Poʻipū beach, which sports a bewitching crescent silhouette and reflective waters like clear crystals, where sightings of monk seals are the order of the day, as well as even passing humpback whales in the distance until April. On the other hand, snorkelling is possible near the reef. Much of the southern coast, moreover, is worth a voyage of discovery, especially the Spouting Horn, an oceanic vent that releases a jet of water up to six metres high. Poʻipū, however, is also chosen for its shopping attractions and restaurants where one can sample Pacific cuisine by the ocean. Old Kōloa Town, Kalāheo, Lāwaʻi and Ōmaʻo are also worth visiting for the chance to get to know the locals who are always willing to raise a glass of Mai Tai, Hawaii's most popular cocktail, as soon as the sun goes down.
