Cycling holidays: when cycling tourism is feminine
The itineraries to start with, from Treviso to Trasimeno
The Treviso-Ostiglia cycle route, the first cycle route in the world to be certified by the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) in terms of environmental sustainability, is probably the best choice for a woman who wants to start cycling or enjoy a stress-free cycling adventure. The route runs for 85 km along a former military railway converted into a flat green motorway (it is expected to extend to a total of 118 km in the future) and crosses the Parco del Sile, a naturalistic area where one pedals above the source of the river of the same name. Remaining in the North East, among the iconic routes to try is the Alpe Adria Cycle Route, which in the Italia section from Tarvisio to Grado is almost always downhill or flat on a converted former railway, passing through illuminated tunnels and historic villages such as Venzone. Another cycle path of interest to cyclists is the one along the Mincio, which connects Peschiera del Garda to Mantua (45 km), offering a spectacular view of the Ducal Palace and a sporting and tasting experience surrounded by greenery. On the other hand, sea lovers should consider the Ciclobile dei Fiori in Liguria, between Ospedaletti and San Lorenzo al Mare, and the Ciclovia dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, which runs along the coastline dotted with ancient and ingenious wooden fishing machines, made of piles and footbridges now often converted into restaurants. And finally, remaining on the theme of water-related routes, the Ciclovia del Trasimeno is a 59 km flat ring route, which runs along the perimeter of the lake of the same name, the largest in Umbria, between protected cycle paths and dirt roads.
