Cycling holidays: when cycling tourism is feminine
The profile of Italian female travellers
According to the 'Viaggiare con la bici' report by ENIT and Legambiente, female cycle tourists are predominantly between 30 and 55 years old, have a medium to high level of education and hold skilled occupations in the role of office workers, teachers, self-employed and freelance professionals. At the end of 2024, women accounted for about 29.7 per cent of Italian cycle tourists (and this share is constantly growing) and are characterised by travelling along EuroVelo routes, river cycle paths or coastal routes (on safe and well-marked routes) and usually undertake daily stages of between 30 and 60 kilometres, making extensive use of e-bikes and often seeking additional services such as luggage transport, technical assistance and local guides.
