Piedmont: Peonies in bloom
Peony lovers will meet on 16 and 17 May at Vivai delle Commande, where two hundred varieties of herbaceous, shrub, intersectional and Hosta peonies are cultivated. Among beautiful, versatile perennial shade plants, one can witness the incredible spectacle of more than four thousand peonies in bloom. The event, now in its 13th edition, takes place in the splendid setting of a seven-hectare park with two small lakes in the hamlet of Tuninetti di Carmagnola (Turin), on the provincial road connecting Turin and Poirino. Carlo, Lodovico and Gabriella, Salvi Del Pero will open their family estate to the public free of charge and those who arrive will be able to stroll around and enjoy the varieties of peonies (some completely new), their colours and scents, but they will also be able to buy potted plants or order them for the autumn bare-root.
