Milan is the city of design, and not only during the week of the Salone. And there are plenty of restaurants, bars and venues in general where you can breathe in the desire to put aesthetic taste and creativity not only on the plate, but also in fittings and furnishings or in cultivating contaminations and collaborations with artists and designers. Without of course making any claim to providing a complete review, here are a few tips for those who want to discover places with this spirit that often, and especially during design week, host exhibitions and installations.
Futurists at Arabesque
.Inside the Durini Design District, the Arabesque Café hosts the exhibition 'Infinite Multiplications', an installation celebrating the historical advertising posters of the company Scac (Società Cementi Armati Centrifugati), signed by futurists such as Fortunato Depero, Ernesto Giuliano Armani and Riccardo Maroni. In parallel, the exhibition 'Milano, Teatro Magico' transports visitors into a surreal atmosphere, where Depero's characters animate the city in constant movement. At 2 Via Francesco Sforza, the café is a landmark for those seeking a fusion of cuisine, art and design; each month it offers a menu that celebrates seasonality and nature, inspired by the memory book of Chichi Meroni, a Milanese art, fashion and design enthusiast and the restaurant's creator.
At 48 Via Solferino, the Quadri Bistrot hosts an exhibition by German artist Klaus Prior, who enriches the atmosphere with his evocative works. A perfect combination of gastronomy, art and design for a refined and inspired break.
Yapa's pop up at the former slaughterhouse and light creations at Cordusio
TheYapa restaurant temporarily leaves its historical location (at 34 Viale Monte Nero) and moves to the Ex Macello Stock Exchange area (Viale Molise 62). In this transformed space, the pop-up restaurant and main bar offer an experience where design, gastronomy and mixology intertwine in an unprecedented setting. Every detail, from the plate to the cocktail and right down to the layout of the space, narrates a sensory journey through cultures, ingredients and materials.
The refined Gran Meliá Cordusio during the Mdw will host an installation by Linea Zero, a Veneto-based avant-garde lighting company. On the panoramic terrace overlooking the Duomo, creations in Polilux designed by Federico Calearo - including the Loto, Rose, Globe, Helios and Arena lamps - will come to life in a perfect balance of Italian design and Japanese atmosphere. Recently launched is the "omakase" experience, led by chef Tadayoshi Motoa, brand chef of Sachi London and Milan, already a Michelin star with the Toki restaurant in Madrid. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, only eight guests will be able to sit at the counter to experience an authentic journey into the purest Japanese cuisine, according to the Washoku philosophy and with freshly selected ingredients.
