The appointment

In June, when the Rosentage (rose days) are celebrated, the town turns into an open-air market of culture and gastronomy. It is the perfect opportunity to discover that in Eltville the rose is not only admired: it is eaten. Surprising local specialities can be sampled among the market stalls: from rose mustard, ideal to accompany the region's cheeses, to spreadable creams and petal-flavoured salt. All, of course, accompanied by a glass of Sekt, the German sparkling wine of which Eltville is one of the historic capitals.
