The secret rooftop of Palazzo Venezia in the Lower Decumanus

Amongst the many secrets that lurk in the heart of Naples, shortly after visiting the Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore with its fortress-like façade and the monumental complex of Santa Chiara famous for its majolica-tiled cloister, continuing along the narrow Decumano Inferiore, before reaching Piazza del Gesù, one discovers Palazzo Venezia. Also belonging to the Austrian Empire, this building, in addition to the stables on the ground floor, contains a somewhat wild roof garden that was dear to Benedetto Croce. Among ficus, lemons, agaves and yuccas, the so-called Casina Pompeiana stands out: you can have a coffee or an aperitif, listen to concerts, stroll through its historic rooms.
