The Grand Tour of the Ragusa region through the lands of the Baroque
There is a light in south-eastern Sicily that does more than simply illuminate: it sculpts. It is the light that caresses the golden-white limestone of the Baroque façades, that glints off the cobblestones of Scicli and plunges into the African blue of Sampieri. Today, this region, the beating heart of the Val di Noto and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is undergoing a profound transformation. It is no longer just a collection of isolated ‘pearls’ such as Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli, but an ecosystem that is coalescing under a single vision of identity. The “Enjoy Barocco” project, launched under the auspices of Gal Terra Barocca and involving five municipalities, is merely the first step towards a more ambitious vision: the creation of a Foundation that brings the entire Province (now the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa) together, uniting the public and private sectors. A contemporary “grand tour” that focuses on seasonality and authenticity.
