Cala Gadir and the turquoise sea loved by Giorgio Armani
The Sea Ox and the Elephant Arch
To stay here is to continually marvel at the shapes that the island's inlets and beaches have taken on, due to erosion and the combined action of the winds. In particular, one is astonished at the Bay of Bue Marino, where the seabed is very shallow, while inside the hollow, monk seals have lived for a long time in a landscape made up of terraces used for wine-growing, endless expanses of capers (the interesting Caper Museum commissioned by the Bonomo and Giglio families should always be visited), grey cliffs, and dammusi often converted into private dwellings or for travellers. Certainly, the Arch of the Elephant impresses with its ignimbritic rock reminiscent of the trunk of this savannah mammal, which can be reached from Cala Levante (Abitare Pantelleria offers many dammusi for rent to experience the island's residential architecture with authenticity). Staying at the Sikelia Luxury Retreat is also an experience not to be missed because of the scenery set up with class and grace right above a lava canyon using art objects, textiles, and reclaimed wood, all nicely set within a lush garden. Even the dazzling Lake Venus always enchanted the Emilian designer.
