The secrets of Los Haitises and Miches’ green initiative

Before heading back south, a detour to the southern shore of Samaná Bay leads to Los Haitises National Park. This ecological sanctuary, which can be explored by boat, stretches amongst dense mangrove channels and imposing karst formations rising from the sea, concealing caves adorned with petroglyphs left by the indigenous Taíno people. On the mainland, you reach Miches, an up-and-coming destination that is attracting the attention of international investors for its sustainability-focused approach. As well as the climb up Montaña Redonda, famous for its giant swings offering a unique 360-degree view of the lush hills and the ocean, the area is home to cutting-edge facilities such as Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda. This exclusive eco-resort adheres to strict environmental policies, from the use of solar energy to the elimination of single-use plastics, whilst offering locally sourced cuisine. Nearby, the recently opened Viva Miches by Wyndham offers another all-inclusive option that focuses on striking a balance between quality and respect for the local environment.
