The Little Gem of Shikinejima in the Izu Archipelago

Three hours from Tokyo
There are two options for reaching the island by sea. The most fascinating is the night ferry leaving from Takeshiba pier (10-hour crossing): you set sail at sunset and, as Tokyo Bay recedes, the sea breeze caresses the faces of passengers on deck, marking the beginning of the journey. In the morning, as they wake up, a blue horizon and a green island that looks like something out of a dream open up before their eyes. Those who prefer a faster crossing can opt for the high-speed hydrofoil, which takes about three hours. You can also leave from Chofu Airport with a flight of about half an hour to Niijima, and then continue by ferry for 15 minutes.
