From Piedmont to Valtellina: 10 destinations featuring autumn colours, walking trails and traditions
Trekking, art and tales of witches in ‘Little Tibet’
Autumn in Livigno is much more than just a transitional season. The larch trees, which turn golden before shedding their needles for the winter, create unique vistas and add charm to the many hiking trails. For a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city, spent enjoying gentle walks, you can set off along the Tröi da li Téa, which takes you on a journey of discovery through the tee, small huts and barns typical of Livigno’s tradition, once the summer homes of shepherds and now restored. Along the Art Trail, on the other hand, you can admire the wooden sculptures created by international artists who took part in the Wood’n’Art art symposium. The Baitel da Plascianet trail, meanwhile, offers some of the most beautiful views of the ‘Little Tibet’ valley, whilst the Baitel di Sc’taur trail takes you up to an altitude of 2,150 metres, where you can enjoy an incredible view of the Livigno Valley. Once your activities are over, you can relax at Aquagranda with wellness treatments and Aufguss sessions (every Wednesday evening, opening hours are extended until 11.00 pm). With the MyLivignoPass (MyLivignoPass), you can take part in special experiences such as a guided tourguided tour of the Stelvio National Park, focusing on observing the changes in nature during autumn and how the environment prepares for the arrival of winter, using binoculars and telescopes to try and spot animals in their natural habitat. Finally, on Saturday 31 October, tales of witches, woods, mysterious figures and beliefs handed down through the ages will bring to life “Leggende al Tramonto” (Legends at Sunset), a nature walk inspired by Halloween and accompanied by the ancient legends of Livigno.
