Audi Q5, the best seller made in Mexico stops at ports
The Audi Q5 is the four-ring brand's model to incur import duties in the US. Since the start of production in 2016, Audi has churned out a plant occupying an area of 460 hectares and employing more than 5,000 people in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico. It is a factory that had already aroused the ire of the first Trump administration. The car is exported all over the world, including Europe. It is equipped with petrol and turbo-diesel engines, also electrified (mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid for the petrol, mild hybrid for the turbo-diesel) with maximum power outputs ranging from 150 to 367 hp and front or all-wheel drive. All engines are mated exclusively to the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Also in the range is the sporty SQ5 available with a 270 hp 3.0 V6 TFSI engine. The latest production batches are, according to various industry and press sources, stopped at ports awaiting customs clearance. The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer, questioned by Il Sole 24 Ore, does not confirm this and says it has begun an analysis of the case. It is not known how many examples are stopped at ports. It should be remembered that the Q5 is the best-selling Audi ever with over 2.7 million.
