In Cogne and the Gran Paradiso Valleys for the Gran Paradiso Film Festival

The countdown is on for the 29th edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival, an international nature film festival, scheduled to run from Monday 27 July to Sunday 9 August. The setting against which discussions on ‘Dominion and Coexistence’ – weaving together biology, ethology, law, the environment, economics and geopolitics – will take place is Cogne and the other valleys of Gran Paradiso. Under the auspices of the Fondation Grand Paradis, the programme comprises the International Competition, featuring 10 feature films; GPFF Online, running from 2 to 7 August on the Festival’s streaming platform; GPFF OFF; De Rerum Natura, with five talks; GPFF on display; and the Photography Competition. This diverse programme invites the audience to explore forms of domination and the possibilities of coexistence within natural systems and human societies, following a journey that traverses both the Earth’s boundaries and those of humankind. Among the films in competition is *Le Chant des Forêts* by Vincent Munier, a nature photographer and filmmaker. The film, winner of the 2026 César Award for Best Documentary and the César Award for Best Sound, also won the Genziana d’oro for Best Film at the 74th Trento Film Festival. With De Rerum Natura, the Festival will become a forum for public discourse, featuring high-profile talks (Carlo Cottrelli, Marta Cartabia, Fabiola Giannotti), who will be invited to explore the theme ‘Dominion and Coexistence’ through some of the major issues relating to the economy, democracy, science, the environment, large predators, memory and civic responsibility.
