2027 Budget: the key measures
Vehicle tax: permanent exemption for motorbikes and cars up to 80 kW
From a discount valid only for 2027 to a permanent measure. The suspension of road tax will be extended under the budget and made permanent. The measure is ‘permanent and definitive’, said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ‘at least for as long as the centre-right is in government’. The scope remains unchanged from the September decree: no road tax for motorbikes, mopeds and cars up to 80 kW, accounting for around 70 per cent of vehicles on the road. What has changed, however, is the timeframe – and with it the cost: around 2.3 billion euros will be needed each year to compensate the regions, which collect the tax. Part of the funding may come from personalised number plates, which will cost 600 euros. The scope of the scheme could be broadened during the parliamentary process, with FdI pushing for it to be extended to large families.
