Events, experiences, thrills: the mountains that don’t close in autumn
Fassa, Carezza and Nova Ponente: autumn takes hold at high altitudes
The ski lifts are open, several cycle routes remain accessible before the onset of winter, and the calendar features exclusive events showcasing local produce: here are three good reasons to choose the Fassa and Carezza ski areas for an off-season holiday. In Val di Fassa, the highlight is the 2026 edition of Top Wine 2950, scheduled for 17 October on the terrace of the Rifugio Maria at Sass Pordoi, at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres but easily accessible via the Sass Pordoi cable car (operating until 1 November): twenty wineries from Trentino-Alto Adige will be offering a wine tasting accompanied by a selection of finger food. Cycling, meanwhile, is one of the best ways to explore the Val d’Ega in autumn, with guided tours, road routes and off-road trails: the highlight is the Carezza Bike Trail, 4.4 kilometres long with a 500-metre elevation gain. For those who prefer a longer route, there is the Latemar Ronda, which allows you to cycle around the Latemar massif, making use of the ski lifts that depart from Obereggen. From Nova Ponente, on the other hand, you can climb through the larch woods scarred by Storm Vaia up to the Lavazè Pass and then on to the Oclini Pass, with the Corno Bianco in the foreground and a panoramic view of the whole Val d’Ega behind you, before returning to the valley via the viewpoint overlooking the Bletterbach Gorge, South Tyrol’s ‘Grand Canyon’. In Carezza, too, the ski lifts are operating until 1 November, so it is still possible to reach the Catinaccio trails and take part in the Laurins Aperò Vibes (every Saturday until 31 October), an event that combines a trip up to high altitude with a gastronomic experience overlooking the Dolomites. Finally, on the subject of culinary delights, the Settimane del Gusto (Weeks of Flavour) are taking place until 4 October, bringing mushrooms, berries, herbs and local game to the valley’s restaurants, alongside experiences and excursions focused on learning about these ingredients.
