Rifugio Lagazuoi: emotions, art and well-being at the summit

Suspended between sky and rock, it is one of those places that transform the high mountains into a total experience: at an altitude of 2,752 metres, on the summit of Monte Lagazuoi and 50 metres from the mountain station of the Lagazuoi cableway, this refuge is a sort of natural hinge between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Alta Badia, and from its spectacular panoramic terrace it opens its gaze towards the most iconic mountains of the Dolomites, from the Cime di Fànes to the Tofane, from the Odle to the Marmolada. Opened in the 1960s by the mountain guide Ugo Pompanin, today the hut is a modern and welcoming structure, run by the Pompanin family for three generations and remaining faithful to the idea of hospitality that combines comfort and mountain spirit. One of its highlights is the open-air Finnish sauna (in the form of a barrel), while a visit to the Lagazuoi Expo Dolomiti, an exhibition and cultural space where the 'Cortina di Stelle' (Cortina of Stars) exhibition by Valtellina artist Fulvio Morella is set up, a project that interweaves art, sport and inclusion in the sign of the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, is a must.
