Amsterdam's museums and bars
The bicycle capital of Europe, and that's about it. The capital of the Netherlands is also famous for its canals, its museums and its nightlife of coffee shops and red-light shop windows. But few may know that Amsterdam is also a must-see destination for those with a soft spot for cats. In the city centre there are in fact many points of interest that allow you to cuddle the little felines and right in the heart of the city, along the Singel, there is a real floating sanctuary for cats, the 'De Poezenboot', a moored boat that serves as a refuge for a community of kittens. In the neighbourhood of Grachtengordel, on the other hand, the museum 'KattenKabinet', literally 'Cat Cabinet', is a varied mix of artwork, sculptures and paintings depicting cats. Finally, in the western part of Amsterdam, in the market district is the 'KattenKafé Kopjes', a café where a dozen or so cats live to keep those who want to enjoy a coffee in a different way company.
